In this solo episode of the Podiatry Legends Podcast, I address an important issue that many podiatrists face in their early careers: job dissatisfaction. I share insights into why some podiatrists, especially new graduates, feel misled by their employers and how this can lead to frustration, burnout, and job dissatisfaction. The episode encourages podiatrists to consider quitting a job if it doesn’t align with their expectations or career goals but stresses the importance of first communicating concerns with employers to see if the situation can be improved.
Key Discussion Points
- The Dangers of Unmet Expectations:
- How many new podiatrists are often promised a diverse caseload, only to be stuck with routine foot care and menial tasks. This mismatch can lead to feelings of betrayal and frustration.
- The “Leftover” Analogy:
- I use a dinner party analogy to explain how employees can feel like they’re getting the “leftovers” of the work—tasks that the senior podiatrists don’t want to do. No one wants to feel like they’re eating someone else’s leftovers, and it’s crucial for employers to be transparent about the work on offer.
- Honesty and Transparency:
- Employers need to be upfront about the job role, breaking down the workload so prospective employees know what to expect. This can help attract the right candidates and reduce job turnover.
- The Solution:
- (1) Be transparent about the position and its responsibilities and (2) Avoid asking employees to do work that the employer would not do themselves.
My Final Thoughts
I suggest that podiatrists who are unhappy should speak with their employers to try and resolve the issue before quitting. A harmonious work environment, where everyone is happy, benefits both employers and employees.

FREE Business Guidance:
A podiatrist I spoke with in early 2024 made an extra $40,000 by following my advice from a 30-minute FREE Zoom call. They were so happy they bought me a $400 bottle of bourbon. You don’t have to do that, but if you do, I will never say no!!!
Think about it – you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Please follow the link below to my calendar and schedule a free 30-minute Zoom call. I guarantee that after we talk, you will have far more clarity on what is best for you, your business and your career.
