356 – Business and Life Lessons from the UK

Feb 11, 2025

In this special episode, I share my recent experiences travelling through the UK with Jonathan Small. From learning about the intricacies of local culture to discovering new perspectives on business, this episode is packed with valuable insights for podiatrists and business owners alike.

The Importance of Traveling with Intent

Travelling with purpose can lead to unexpected lessons that can be applied in business and life. Whether it’s noticing the efficiency of a simple electric shower or seeing the impact of tourism on local businesses. We encourage everyone to take time to explore and absorb the world around them.

Systematising for Success: Lessons from a Shower

One of the unexpected lessons came from my encounter with a unique shower system in Jonathan’s clinic. While this may seem trivial, it led to a deeper conversation about systems in podiatry practices. Things that seem common to us may be new and confusing for our patients, and we must be aware of this.

Learning to simplify processes for better patient experiences is crucial to maintaining a successful business.

Inspiration from Historical Landmarks

No matter where you visit, there will always be lessons to learn. One of the iconic places we visited was Stonehenge. It’s an impressive feat knowing that these massive stones were moved 230 miles. If they could do this thousands of years ago, it means whatever challenges you’re facing in business—when you set your mind to something, you can achieve great things, no matter how difficult.

The Value of Continued Growth

Whether it’s in marketing, patient care, or business strategy, staying stagnant means falling behind. You need to refine your business practices constantly. This is precisely what I do before every workshop and presentation.

Final Thoughts

This episode is a reminder that business and life lessons are everywhere, even in the most unexpected places. By staying open to learning and connecting with others, podiatrists can not only grow their businesses but also enhance their personal lives.

Also, look ahead in your schedule and plan some time off. It could be a few days or just one single day. Regardless, it will be good for your wellbeing. You don’t have to travel overseas; I’m sure there is a lot to learn within driving distance of where you live.

FREE Business Guidance:

Do you have a business question? A podiatrist I spoke with in early 2024 made an extra $40,000 by following my advice from a 30-minute FREE Zoom call. They were so happy they bought me a $400 bottle of bourbon. You don’t have to do that, but if you do, I will never say no!!!

Think about it – you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Please follow the link below to my calendar and schedule a free 30-minute Zoom call. I guarantee that after we talk, you will have far more clarity on what is best for you, your business and your career.
