As podiatrists, we’re often guilty of letting the week run us, rather than intentionally designing our schedules to work for us. Patients pile in, admin creeps into every gap, and before we know it, another week, month or year has flown by in a blur.
Check My Upcoming Events
In this episode, I share why so many podiatry business owners feel overworked and scattered and how a few small changes can transform your weekly rhythm, energy, and impact.
The main culprits behind a chaotic week?
-
Overcommitment – Saying yes to everything, leaving no time to breathe
-
Lack of boundaries – Letting patients, staff, or admin tasks blur personal time
-
Energy mismatches – Doing low-value work when you’re mentally at your best
The good news? You don’t need a total overhaul. Just a few smart tweaks.
Audit Before You Adjust
Before you start redesigning your week, it’s essential to audit your current one.
Spend a week tracking how your time is really used:
-
When do you feel mentally sharpest?
-
What drains your energy?
-
Where are the “leaks” in your schedule?
From there, start aligning high-energy tasks (like MSK or complex patients) with high-energy times, and save admin or lower-stakes activities for when your energy dips.
Four Small Changes With Big Impact
-
Time Blocking
Allocate a set time for specific patient types and business tasks: marketing, admin, strategy. Protect this time and structure your day around it. -
Strategic Gaps
Add buffer time between patients to regroup, reset, or catch up. It reduces stress, increases focus, and helps you stay on schedule. -
Thinking Time
One hour per week with no interruptions, just for creative thinking, strategy, or vision. -
Design for YOU
You don’t need to copy someone else’s ideal week. Ask: What type of week supports the kind of podiatrist and person I want to be?
Boundaries That Protect Your Sanity
You can’t design a better week without better boundaries.
-
Say no to appointments that don’t align with your schedule or energy
-
Don’t allow last-minute “emergencies” to derail your day
-
Train your team to protect your focus, not just your calendar
-
End your workday when you said you would—your team and family will thank you
Your Challenge
Start this week:
- Track your time.
- Spot the leaks.
- Make 2–3 small changes.
Because you don’t rise to the level of your intentions, you fall to the level of your systems.
Your weekly structure is your system.

No one wants a business coach; however, if you are looking, let’s talk.
A business owner I spoke with in early 2024 made an extra $40,000 by following my advice from a 30-minute FREE Zoom call. They were so happy that they bought me a $400 bottle of bourbon. That’s a win-win for both of us.
Think about it – You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Please use the link below to schedule your Zoom call.
