The Truth Behind Starting Your Own Podiatry Business with Lucinda Mercer

Apr 26, 2025

Don’t forget to look at my UPCOMING EVENTS

In this episode of the Podiatry Legends Podcast, I’m joined by Lucinda Mercer, the owner of Poized Podiatry in the UK. Lucinda shares her inspiring journey from working in the NHS to launching her own podiatry business. She explains how her passion for musculoskeletal (MSK) care led her to pursue a master’s in podiatric surgery, and how it shaped her approach to podiatry today.

Lucinda’s story is a perfect example of how finding your niche in podiatry can open doors. After realising that she didn’t want to follow the traditional NHS path, Lucinda took the leap into private practice. Poized Podiatry is now a thriving business, and Lucinda’s focus on MSK podiatry and patient-centred care has helped her create a unique space in the podiatry field.

Business Challenges

Starting your own business isn’t without challenges. Lucinda discusses the highs and lows she has encountered in the early stages of Poized Podiatry. From navigating mortgage increases that forced her to reassess her financial strategy to determining the most effective way to market her practice, Lucinda has learned the importance of systems and processes in ensuring long-term success.

Rule of Thirds

One of the most valuable pieces of advice Lucinda shares is the “rule of thirds” in business. She explains that one-third of the time, things will go wonderfully, one-third will be just okay, and one-third will be tough. Understanding this rule and accepting it as part of the entrepreneurial journey has helped her push through tough times.

Prioritise Your Time

It’s not just about building a business—it’s also about maintaining balance. Lucinda emphasises the importance of prioritising self-care, exercise, and the people who support you, like family and friends. Whether it’s starting your day with a workout or debriefing with your partner after work, these small changes can make a big difference in how you handle the challenges that come with running a podiatry practice.

Starting your own podiatry practice can be daunting, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. If you’re considering branching out on your own, listen to this episode and learn from Lucinda’s experiences. Poized Podiatry is an excellent example of how passion, systems, and self-care can lead to success in the world of podiatry.

Think about it: you have everything to gain and nothing to lose, and it’s not a TRAP. I’m not out to get you, I’m here to help you.

Please follow the link below to my calendar and schedule a free 30-minute Zoom call.

I guarantee that after we talk, you will have far more clarity on what is best for you, your business and your career.
